Vietnamese Community Launches Walk-A-Thon and Concert
To Raise Funds for Hurricane Victims
Numerous organizations from the Vietnamese Community in Orange County have joined forces to organize a walk-a-thon and concert at the Westminster Civic Center on Sunday, Oct. 15 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to raise funds for victims of the recent hurricanes in Texas and Florida. These organizations represent a mix of different affiliations, factions or alliances in the community. “It is important that we come together despite our differences as a united gesture of repaying our debts to America which has taken us in and cared for us for decades,” said Charlie Chi Nguyen, the Chairperson of the Organizing Committee. This group of organizations has organized similar walk events in the past to raise funds for different causes.
The walk will extend several laps within the Civic Center Plaza which extends to approximately four miles or approximately 10 kilometers. Walkers will use walk registration forms to solicit donation pledges from friends or relatives and turn in to the Organizing Committee before the walk.
Following the walk, the crowd will be treated with an outdoor concert. Score of artists, singers, musicians or entertainers have volunteered to perform free of charge at the event. Those performers are expected to raise funds during their performances at the event as well. The concert will provide a background to celebrate solidarity with hurricane victims and unity in the community for this meaningful gathering.
The Organizing Committee calls for volunteers and participants from all walks of life, communities or backgrounds to join hands to ensure success of this event.
The Organizing Committee is currently housed at 9141 Bolsa Ave., Suite 301, Westminster, CA 92683 in the Cathay Bank Center, tel. (714) 905-9688, (714) 329-2280 and (714) 642-9590. A web site has been set up at www.cuutrobaolut.org and email email@example.com. All donations are tax deductible.
